Law Society: 'Discussions with Britannia indicate progress'
A first round of talks between the Law Society and Co-op/Britannia kicked off this morning and resulted in progress.
The meeting between the Law Society and Co-operative Financial Services (CFS), which has recently merged with Britannia Building Society, was arranged following CFS' decision to axe the 3,600 sole practitioners from Britannia’s conveyancing panel.
Letters had been sent to the 3,600 sole practitioners on the conveyancing panel of Britannia at the end of August giving them one month’s notice of their removal from the panel.
Following today's discussions Des Hudson commented:
"Following talks with Britannia we hope to convene a further meeting to explore the drivers of the Co-op/Britannia decision to axe the sole practitioners from their conveyancing panel. We are delighted to announce that Britannia have agreed to a deferment to extend expiry from the panel by two weeks, until October 4th, while the moves to seek out a solution continue."
The Society expressed its eagerness for the discussions to continue at a rapid pace and for a solution to be reached.
